2022 International Admission Guide for Master’s Degree, Central Conservatory of Music

A.  Application Prerequisites

a) The applicants should have a degree or an equivalent qualification to a Chinese Bachelor's Degree. The applicants expecting to graduate should achieve the Bachelor's Degree before the enrollment.

b) Two recommendation letters are required from your referees. The referees should be professors or persons with relevant academic title. The template of recommendation letters is enclosed as Attachment I.

c) The Applicants should have good physical health that meets the standards of physical examination.

d)  Level 5 Certificate of Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK)

B.  Application

a) Type of application: Full-time Master Student.

b)  Major: Each applicant can only register one professional direction of CCOM.

Application Period: From February 28 – March 7,2022.

c) Application Method: Applicants should send following application documents through e-mail to ccomyz@ccom.edu.cn. Please follow the order of the e-mail title: 2022 International Students Master Degree Application+ Name+ Department+ Major:

i. 2022 CCOM Registration Information Form for International Students (Master Degree) (Attachment I). Please submit the scanned copy of the application form signed by the applicant

ii. Scan the QR code ( Attachment II) and pay the registration fee 800 RMB, send the screenshot of the successful payment.

iii. The picture of ID.

iv. Two printed recommendation letters are required from your referees. The referees should be professors or persons with relevant academic title.

v. Chinese proficiency: Level 5 of HSK is required for all international student applicants.

vi. Medical report

vii. Undergraduate diplomas, such as those holding degrees from overseas educational institutions should be certified at Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange. Fresh graduates should hold the studying certificate and obtain the state-recognized undergraduate graduation certificate before enrollment, otherwise the admission qualification is invalid.

All kinds of materials submitted by candidates should be authentic. Otherwise the admissions will be cancelled.

e). Materials needed to the International Students Office

Applicants should fill the "Application Form for International Students Admission" (see attachment IV below) and send it to pchunni@ccom.edu.cn.

Applicants also need to prepare a certificate of no criminal record and a certificate of financial ability in advance. Please send it to pchunni@ccom.edu.cn before enrollment. Applicants who do not pass the review will be cancelled the qualification.

C.  Examination

a) The following departments adopt the “main subject and interview” mode.

i.  Music Education: the examination of main subject is the same as it of full-time Program for Master Degree.

Skill Assessment by the interview:

-  Sight-reading and ear-training

-  Choral conducting

-  Piano

-  Composition techniques

ii.  Composition and electronic music: The examination of main subject is the same as it of full-time Program for Master Degree.

Interview:

-  Any experience related to your intended major;

-  Express your understanding of the world important contemporary composers;

- Your expectations of learning in China;

- Questions based on the students’ submitted compositions.

iii.   Violin Making: the examination of main subject is the same with full-time Program for Master Degree.

Interview:

- The basics and professional knowledge of violin making.

b)  The following departments only exam the main subject:

i.  Conducting Department, Piano Department, Department of Orchestral Instruments, Traditional Chinese Instruments Department, Voice and Opera Department: The examination of main subject is the same with full-time Program for Master Degree.

c)  Musicology: The examination of main subject is the same with full-time Program for Master Degree (no need to take the exams of politics, English and instrument performance).

d)  Artistic Voice, Voice Medical, Music Therapy, Music AI and Information Technology: the examination of main subject is the same with full-time Program for Master Degree (no need to take the exams of politics and English).

D.  Date and place of the examination

a)Date: Around the end of March and the beginning of April 2022.

The exact date of the exam would be published by the midmonth or the end of March at http://www.ccom.edu.cn/szc/jfjg/yjsb/zsxx/sszs/

b) The exact time, place and format of the examination will be arranged according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Beijing epidemic prevention and control. If there is any change, the notification will be issued in time. Applicants are required to pay close attention to our graduate admissions website..

E.  Admission and enrollment

a)  CCOM will make decisions according to the applicant's application materials and test scores. The admissions notifications will be sent in June 2022 enclosed the admission procedures.

b)  Registration Period: September 2022 (specified in the admissions notifications)

c)  Physical Reexamination: Applicants who failed to meet the physical requirements would be rejected.

F.  Degree

a)  Period of Master’s Degree Program: Three years;

b)  After completing all courses, successful holding the students’ degree recitals, passing the thesis defense, and meeting the requirements of the "Regulations of the People's Republic of China on Academic Degrees", students would receive their master’s degrees.

G. Tuition fee and accommodation

a)  Tuition Fee: 43,000 RMB per person per year;
