Central Conservatory of Music Application Guide for Foreign Visiting Students

I. Application Requirements

 

Non-Chinese citizens in good physical and mental health, holding a valid foreign passport, with good conduct and no criminal record.

Age between 18 and 40 (inclusive). General visiting students should have a high school diploma or above. Advanced visiting students should have a Master’s degree or above.

Possess musical foundations and professional skills corresponding to the intended study field, with educational background meeting the requirements for the intended program.

For courses taught in Chinese, basic Chinese communication skills are required.

 

Non-degree professional music education is provided, covering performance, composition, musicology, and other areas. The program aims to enhance students' professional skills and artistic literacy through specialized courses and practical guidance.

 

II. Applicants and Registration Requirements

 

(1) Registration Requirements

Hold a valid foreign passport.

Good health, meeting the physical examination standards set by the Chinese Ministry of Education and the Conservatory.

(2) Cases Not Accepted for Registration

Those who have been expelled from Central Conservatory of Music or other Chinese universities.

Those who fail to meet prior academic requirements or provide false registration materials.

Those whose health condition does not meet the enrollment physical examination standards or have diseases that may affect normal studies.

 

III. Fields of Study

 

Covering performance, composition, musicology, and other areas, specifically including:

Performance: Piano, orchestral instruments (violin, cello, etc.), vocal & Opera, Chinese traditional instruments, etc.

Composition: Composition, electronic music composition, etc.

Musicology: Music theory, music arts management, music history, etc.

Music education: Music education.

IV. Study Duration and Course Arrangements

 

(1) Study Duration

Visiting periods are divided into short-term (one semester) and long-term (one academic year). Students may choose according to their needs, with a maximum duration of 2 years.

 

(2) Teaching Format and Location

Teaching format: One-on-one tutorials for major courses; group classes for general courses with undergraduate students.

Location: Central Conservatory of Music campus (No. 43 Baojia Street, Xicheng District, Beijing).

 

V. Application Process and Required Materials

 

(1) Application Period

Enrollment occurs in spring and autumn semesters annually. Spring semester applications close by January 1; autumn semester applications close by June 15. Late applications are not accepted.

 

(2) Application Method

Applications are accepted online or in person; postal applications are not accepted.

Online: Send application materials to the designated email (pchunni@ccom.edu.cn) with the subject: "Visiting Student - Nationality - Name - Intended Major."

In-person: International Students Office, Central Conservatory of Music, Room 1529, International Student Dormitory, East Campus.

 

(3) Required Application Materials

Completed and signed "Application Form for International Students."

Copy of valid passport (including personal information page and visa page; if no visa, provide passport information page).

Copies of highest academic degree/diploma certificates.

Proof of professional ability: Performance/recording video (composition students submit compositions) and acceptance letter from a Conservatory professor.

Certificate of no criminal record (notarized or authenticated, in Chinese or English).

Proof of financial ability (covering tuition, living expenses, etc.).

Physical examination report.

Four recent 2-inch passport photos (white background, with name and nationality written on the back).

 

VI. Assessment and Admission

 

(1) Assessment

Professional teachers review performance/recording materials (composition students submit compositions). If qualified, the tutor will issue an "acceptance letter."

 

(2) Admission Criteria

Based on the eight required application materials and performance/composition materials, admission is determined competitively.

Admission notices are issued one month before the semester starts.

Admitted students must confirm their enrollment within the specified period; otherwise, admission is forfeited.

 

VII. Fee Structure

 

(1) Tuition

Annual tuition is paid upon registration. Current rates:

General visiting students: 43,000 RMB/year.

Advanced visiting students: 48,000 RMB/year.

Tuition must be paid in full at registration. Failure to pay within two weeks of the semester start results in cancellation of study visa.

 

(2) Other Fees

Application fee: None.

Accommodation: Students are required to stay in on-campus international dormitories (fees apply per semester/academic year).

Physical examination, residence permit, insurance, and other fees are borne by the student.

Additional costs for textbooks, instrument rental, etc., are the student’s responsibility.

 

VIII. Enrollment and Registration

 

(1) Enrollment

Admitted students must report to the Conservatory on the date specified in the admission notice. Late enrollment without valid reason results in cancellation of admission.

Reporting location: International Students Office, Room 1529, International Student Dormitory, East Campus (Tel: 010-6643202).

Required documents: Admission notice, original passport and copies, physical examination report, etc.

 

(2) Registration Requirements

Tuition and accommodation fees must be paid within the first two weeks of the semester.

Students studying for over 6 months must purchase qualified group insurance in mainland China (overseas policies not accepted) and submit a copy to the International Students Office.

Complete the physical examination review upon arrival (within one week at the Beijing International Travel Healthcare Center).

Apply for temporary residence registration and residence permit (within 30 days of entry at the local public security bureau).

 

(3) Registration Process

The International Students Office reviews enrollment materials and registers student information.

Students complete the course selection form and submit it to the Academic Affairs Office.

Collect campus card and complete enrollment.

 

IX. Academic Management and Completion

 

(1) Daily Management

Comply with Chinese laws and Conservatory regulations; respect Chinese customs and religious beliefs.

Attend courses and practical activities as per the study plan; no unexcused absences.

Accommodation: Students must stay in on-campus dormitories unless granted permission for off-campus housing by the International Students Office.

 

(2) Completion Requirements

Complete required courses, meet academic standards, and have no disciplinary violations.

Students who fulfill the program receive a "Certificate of Study for Foreign Visiting Students" from the Central Conservatory of Music.
