Visas and Residence Permits

(1) X1 Visa

X1 visas are for long-term learners in China.An X1 visa is valid for 30 days, therefore you need to go to the International Students’ Office within 30 days of your arrival to apply for a residence permit.You can’t convert an X1 visa into other types of visas.Before applying for an X1 visa,you should provide a health report issued by the Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.

(2) X2 Visa

X2 visas are for short-term learners in China.The validity of an X2 visa is written on its pages, indicating how long you can stay since the day of you arrival.For example,if you come to China on August 25th holding a 90-day X2 visa,you can stay here till November 23rd.

(3) L Visa

L Visas are for tourists.Tourists traveling in groups can get a Group L Visa.

(4)S1 and S2 Visas

S1 Visas are for family members of foreigners to pay long-term family visits to their spouses,children,children-in-law or parentscurrently residing in China. Any other people who need to reside in China for personal reasons can also get S1 Visas. S2 Visas are for family members of foreigners to pay short-term family visits to their spouses, children, children-in-law or parents currently staying or residing in China. Any other people who need to stay in China for personal reasons can also get S2 Visas.

(5) Z Visa

Z Visas are for those who intend to work in China.

(6) Residence Permit

International students who are going to study in China for over 180 days need to apply for residence permits. The validity of a residence permit is written on its pages. Before it goes invalid, students can enter and leave China for unlimited times.
